A living memorial...an ongoing celebration of B...

Byron Dixon.JPG

46 years.
1 month.

4 days.

August 7, 2026 is a day that will live in infamy.  The world transitioned from having Byron's laugh in our ears and infectious energy in our eyes, to now our memories and our recollections.

Memories fade; ByronDixon45.com is built to carry his story and our stories with him from the 46 years he led through  the next 30 years while his kids grow, his friends grieve, and his family adjusts.

How do you craft (in 2 dimensions via website) a story that's larger than life?

How do you inject excitement into website fonts and layouts of a dude who had limitless energy?

www.ByronDixon45.com is a living project; the landing page will be dedicated to celebrating Byron:  his humor, his style, his smile, his gifts.

Each menu link will go to a page created and deployed by the person named in the header.  This gives each person the chance to share their viewpoint of an unforgettable soul that only comes once in a life time.

Eventually, Kaylor and Braylon will better know their Dad and can contribute/assume care of this living memorial so that the next two generations (and more to come) can be inspired by the dude who made us believe that investing in one another is worth it.

While this project starts August 2026, it will progress over the months and years that Byron's framily, friends, and family process his life and what it means to exist without him (in this version).

Sometimes it's best to hear from the person directly...in their words.  In his voice.  With his very clear direction.

So when things feel overwhelming, find a quiet spot, check your cellular signal/wifi, and click play on the video.

For context, this video is Byron in 2021, with his Lufkin family at the height of Lufkin 24/7 cuisine:  IHOP.

The Dixons, surfing a wave of good luck, were counting their blessings and ensuring that Daddy was getting his flowers while he was alive and well enough to receive them.

Byron's words proved prescient and powerful.

Byron's life can't be fully encapsulated into a single eulogy:  his personality and life stories are much too broad.  He was not perfect...there's that pesky 10% that drove many of his friends, family, and more importantly his wife absolutely bananas.  But that 90% that he brought to everything else:  magic.

A great coach, fantastic Dad, energetic husband, country friend, and powerful socializer, Byron's quirks, mistakes, and gifts touched all of us.

While this video was from November 2015, it's a powerful reminder that Byron was just as "typical" as everyone else.  He wanted a life of health and happiness...in a Fuddruckers.

He exuded confidence in almost everything that he did.  Luckily his cockiness was never exclusive:  he invited everyone to join his journey.  We all joked he'd make a great preacher.

The Dixon 5 didn't grow up with means; finances were always tight.  In his younger days, Byron skirted social common sense and sometimes the law to get what he felt he wanted and sometimes to get what he needed.

But as he matured, met responsible friends, and became more intentional toward family, his focus and behaviors shifted...to his credit.

From Little Byron to Coach Dixon

A quick view through time

It's hard to fully appreciate Byron's "wingspan."  Not only was he an expert athlete, his ability to touch the lives of so many spanned generations, cliques, politics, race, gender, and every other arbitrary boundary we make for ourselves.  Even when he didn't fully understand some of the social nuance, he never let people feel alienated when they were in his presence.  Now THAT is a gift to be celebrated.
